FREMANTLE TRIP (Week 3)

My persona:

  • 21 years old
  • From Belgium, here on 6 month working holiday
  • Native french speaker, taking English lessons
  • Unemployed/in between jobs – don’t have much spare cash
  • Graduated high school, average grades
  • Enjoy being active, art
  • Vegetarian
  • Living in shared accomodation with other travellers in North Fremantle
  • Does not own a car, travels mainly on push bike or via train

My scenario:

Still adjusting to this new city. I’m actively looking for cafe or bar work around the Fremantle area as it’s close by and easily accessible. I don’t have many friends yet but I enjoy being active and social, and trying new things. I’m still learning English. As I haven’t found employment yet, I am on a tight budget so when I’m out and about in Fremantle I like to look for fun, affordable or free things to do that involve more than just drinking coffee and dining out as it can be costly. I appreciate art and photography, and I’d like to get to know more about the culture around Fremantle. I’m vegetarian and very environmentally conscious.

OBSERVATIONS

Empathy map with observations made in Fremantle

Based on my observations, potential challenges to be addressed are:

  • Social issues stemming from bored or disadvantaged youth, and/or mental health;
  • Reduce wastage from cafes/restaurants – particularly plastics;
Litter is visible, glass and plastic used to excess, lack of visible recycling/waste schemes
  • Liveliness in public spaces – encourage more music/dance, art, sporting/leisure activities in the park;
  • Inaccessibility due to cost, poor signage, public transport;
  • Perceptions of safety;
  • Segregation/stigmas surrounding homeless people, Indigenous/CALD people, disability;
  • Maintenance/community care of public facilities;
  • Encouraging social interaction / talking / engaging with strangers;
  • Promotion/awareness of cultural and historical artefacts – walking trails, etc.
